FCC Regulation and Coordination

Responsible Rollout

The FCC has commited to a responsible rollout of the next generation of cellular technology, 5G.

"The FCC’s Forum on 5G Open Radio Access Networks featured experts at the vanguard of the development and deployment of 5G network architecture. Open, interoperable, standards-based, and virtualized radio access networks offer an alternative to traditional cellular network architecture and could enable a diversity in suppliers, better network security, and lower costs.

"The FCC created its first two Innovation Zones, city-scale test beds for advanced wireless communications and network research, including 5G networks."

The FCC has partnered with telecommunications companies across the nation to provide use-case studies.

How will 5G perform in real world test environments relating to signal strength and quality?  Are users devices capable of sending back the data in a manner that will not slow down the end experience?
